The Captain’s junk drawer – like all junk drawers – had become a wasted space: a place for All Things With No Home. It was overwhelmingly intimidating for such a small drawer, frustrating to have to get into to find anything, and mostly a big waste of space. We emptied the entire contents onto the counter, separating it into piles of similar items, and then tackled it one pile at a time. When done, everything that had a home elsewhere was put away, the recycle and garbage was gone, and what went back in was only what was needed. There is now room for the things that need to be in the drawer, and everything is easy to find.
